Ultrasound Scans

Our ultrasound machine is one of the most used pieces of equipment in the building. We have a range of probes, each of which allows us to look at different type of tissue at a different depth with the body.

An ultrasound scan is a non-invasive way to look inside of your pet at their organs, it’s a moving image and gives our doctors a huge amount of information. Ultrasound examinations play a vital role in the diagnosis of many conditions.

It is a vital piece of equipment for our emergency doctors, a FAST (Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma) can be performed after a trauma or in acute case to check for obvious signs of damage, internal bleeding etc. These things are often not detected on an X-ray.

We can use the ultrasound machine for specific tasks such as heart scans and pregnancy scan. Should we need to take a biopsy sample of an internal organ it is possible to use the ultra sound image to guide us without the need for surgery. Urine samples can be taken from the bladded in the same way.

Your veterinarian may request our specialist to perform an ultrasound scan as part of their diagnostic work-up on your pet.
