Itโs a heart-breaking occurrence because, in many cases, we cannot help these poor animals get back home, especially if they have not been micro-chipped. For this reason, we always encourage pet owners to micro-chip their pets; itโs the best possible solution for everyone concerned.
Many of these unclaimed animals find their way to local SPCAs. The SPCA is filled with lost pets that have not been claimed, pets that are no longer wanted or whoโs owners can no longer care for them. There are puppies and kittens from unexpected and unwanted litters.
The Tshwane SPCA is one of the main animal welfare service providers in the area and operates from two branches โ Waltloo and Centurion.ย Instead of purchasing a pet, please consider adopting one of the many animals at their branches. The adoption process may seem complex, but the friendly staff will guide you. Some useful pointers to consider:
- Detailed info on the adoption process and fees are on the website SPCA Adoption ;
- Adoption albums are made available via social media SPCA Tshwane Adoptions Facebook Page yet it is vital that you visit a branch to meet the animals and select the companion based on your interaction.
- Adoption fees are charged to cover the cost of sterilization, microchipping, vaccination, and deworming;
- Municipal bylaws limited the number of pets allowed per property. Similarly, some properties e.g. complexes and estates may also have restrictions;
- All adoptions are subject to a successful home-check.
If you have any questions or queries regarding adoptions, please contact the relevant SPCA branch directly:
